Were you surprised by your positive pregnancy test? You may be at a loss for what to do next.
Maybe you are considering the abortion pill but are not sure if you qualify for it.
How Far Along Are You?
Before taking the abortion pill, you need to get an ultrasound to determine how far along you are. The FDA recommends not taking the pill after ten weeks gestation.
An ultrasound, which we can offer you for free, will tell you how far along you are and ensure the pregnancy is not ectopic.
You also shouldn’t take the abortion pill if you:
- Use an IUD for birth control
- Are allergic to any of the ingredients
- Ordered the pill from a sketchy, third-party source. Any drug not given by a medical professional is not subject to FDA regulations and may be contaminated with harmful bacteria, contain other unknown ingredients, and be expired or fake.
Do You Have the Finances for It?
The abortion pill costs, on average, between $500-800. And in Texas, you can’t legally get a prescription for the drug, so you will have to travel out of state for that. You will need to factor in gas, hotels, food, and medical exam costs. According to CBS News, these additional factors can cost upwards of $1,000.
Have You Completely Ruled Out Other Options?
You should never make a decision because you feel pressured or rushed to do so. Other options that may be a better fit for you than the abortion pill include the following:
- Adopción. Did you know that 40 percent of people who get an abortion cite financial reasons for doing so? However, adoption is a much better financial choice than abortion. Instead of paying hundreds or thousands of dollars, you will receive financial assistance if you choose adoption. This often includes all prenatal and postpartum care costs, including maternity clothes, food, housing, medical bills, and more.
Adoption also gives you a chance to provide your child with a successful and meaningful future. Placing them in a home with financial stability, love, and support may turn them into the next Steve Jobs, Nelson Mandela, or Eleanor Roosevelt –all of whom were adopted, by the way.
- Crianza de los hijos. You may not have planned on being a parent yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be a parent. The truth is, no one ever feels ready to be a mom or dad– even when a pregnancy is planned. There are many helpful resources in Texas that can set you up for success.
